Comments: While visiting Venice this June, 2003 I was intrigued to see not far from this location in the above painting Piazza San Marca a bridge named :Ponte Della Paglia: near the bridge of Sighs.

My family name is Paglia and I am trying to determine how this Venice bridge becamed named
"Bridge of Straw".

Any light you can shed on this subject or steer me to a source I can further investigate will be greatly appreciated.
