Comments: The Pazzi Chapel is a magnificent structure, completed in 1444 by Brunelleschi. The chapel is designed for optical comprehension, throught the use of similar proportions. This demonstrates Brunelleschi's knowledge in perspective, which serves to clarigy the relationship between spectators and space. Around the time of this construction was the beginning of a new architectural problem the inclusion of optics in architectural design. I feel that this structure serves as a exapmle for the possibilities that can be created through the use of perspective. For what derives is the most comprehensive structure, created by a unifying force which is geometry. Therefore we arrive at the conclusion that we cannot forget the impact that mathmatic perspective, for it is often forgoten and spectators pay the price because of an irrational construction. Pazzi Chapel sets the standard for this, which results in the most beautiful structure!

Comments: I had the honor of seeing the Pazzi Chapel while visiting Florence this summer. It is obviously Renaissance in design because of the importance of visual symmetry and perfection acheived through form.

Comments: Pazzi Chapel is one of a handful of regrettable turning points in architecture. In this case, the art is applied to the structure after it was finished. Art becomes portable. Structure becomes irrelevant and effects are separated from architectural causes ~ It's effects are felt 4 centuries later with the complete utilitarian mediocrity of most commonplace buildings of the 20th c.

Comments: This is one of my favorite buildings. It’s the most pure and profound structure created! I always have an overwhelming feeling of solitude and peace when I visit this perfectly proportioned chapel. It’s the human scale, the acoustics and serenity that make me feel like I am taking the deepest breaths possible and exhaling at a rate slower than it took to place all the stones to build this amazing place.
