Comments: DaVinci's Vetruvian Man is actually a mathematical algorhythm proving that infinately, equally ratioed circles and squares can cover the same surface area. Vitruvius was a Roman architect who was never able to prove that theorem. This image is DaVinci's proof, and named thusly to credit the originator of the theorem.

Comments: There is more to this drawing than meets the eye. It is a cryptogram of mathmatics, using pi, and phi ratios. can you find them? The underlying messages and symbolisms are endless and mind boggling.

Comments: Leonardo da Vinci's "Vitruvian Man" was drawn about 1492, the year Columbus discovered the New World. The original is in Venice, Italy. Leonardo saw a kind of mathematical perfection in the human form. The anatomically correct figure stands within the ideal form of the circle and the perfect proportions of the square. It has become a symbol for physical and mental wholeness. Interestingly the text in the background is in the mirror-image writing which Leonardo often used. He was left-handed.

Comments: When I see this painting, I think about doctors, why? Because I read somewhere that this painting was made for that reason, doctors can study the sketch of the human body. But why did De Vinci only do one of the male body? Who knows?

Comments: Doesn't the vetruvian man have something to do with PHI and the Divine Proportion, that was part of why he would study dead humans was to measure there proportions to prove and study the theory off Divine Proportion, like if you divide the distance from the top of your head to your toes by the distance between your belly button to your toes you get PHI and it appears all throughtout nature and the human body, kind of like how the Mona Lisa is a hermaphrodite, :) , maybe that is her secret, but where is the copy of the Madonna Rocks painting in Paris I wanted to look at the symbolism he portrayed there

Comments: It also has to do with aesthetics which was an artistic concern of Da Vinci and Vitruvius. Vitruvius defined architecture attributes using a triad of utilitas, firmitas and venustas (usefulness, solidity, and delight). Geometry played an important role in defining (western) aethetic values and today we judge what is "beautiful" through symmetry.

Comments: i belive this picture uses the ratio 1:1,618, which is called the golden mean, phi(pronounced "fee"), or divine proportion. its considered the most anatomicly correct picture of the human body.

Comments: Why can't people just appreciate the literary writing of Dan Brown. Cast aside whether or not it is fact or fiction, just appreciate the writer's ability to keep the reader turning pages and actually getting us to look up these famous paintings and study them for whatever reason. I'll venture the majority of people who read the Da Vinci Code never heard of the Vitruvian Man.

Comments: Your Jesus theory is possible, but improbable. Da Vinci was not popular among members of the Roman Catholic Church, and prtraying Jesus dying on the cross would've lessened his already low popularity with them. For all they know or care, it could've meant he supported Jesus' crucifixion.
