I was also struck by how large the Christ child was depicted. His arm and shoulders are massive for so young a child. It's as though the sculptor is reminding us,this is no ordinary child, but the redeemer of man-kind.There is also the hint, that super human bravery would be needed to withstand the agonies and horrors,Christ would have to face.Perhaps that is why the Christ child was shown bigger than life. The boys are always at her arms or near her. The one boy in one of the depictions, stands behind Mary, as if to be hidden. The Jesus (Yesu) and his twin brother Judas Thomas.
