Comments: Have you heard? Marc Levoy, director of the Digital Michelangelo Project, discovered a major error in the art history books? Quoting the web site: “These volumes, and even the guidebooks sold at the Galleria dell' Accademia, uniformly agree that ‘The David’ is 434 centimeters (14' 3") tall without its pedestal. But the computer scientists have determined that the famous statue, which sits on top of a six-foot pedestal, is actually 517 centimeters (17') tall. ‘I expected our project to be historically significant,’ Levoy says, ‘I never expected it to start by correcting the history books.’"

Comments: I hope everyone who sees this picture can understand what a miracle it is. Michelangelo carved this out of a block of marble twice rejected by other artists because of it's flaws and cracks. The realism, sensuality and sensitivity of line, the perfection of the human body caught forever on cold marble, is always inspiring me.

Comments: Do you know that his head (David's) is actually larger than the normal head to body proportion? Michelangelo made it that way so that the statue would remain proportional when viewed from the ground up (David is on a pedestal).

Comments: A true Renaissance work, based on classical Greek models, but with his own interpretation of the male body. Like many of the Greek originals, David is poised for violent action. His gaze takes in Goliath the way a baseball pitcher eyes the batter. The weight of a stone is supported by his cupped right hand. In a moment he will unsling the sling from behind his back, shift his weight forward onto the now relaxed left leg, and turn by stepping forward with his right leg, so that his body, and especially his right shoulder, will move forward to add to the velocity of the stone in the sling. This is a masterpiece of anticipated motion.... Other Renaissance Davids show him after the defeat of Goliath, straddling the giant's head. Michelangelo (perhaps because of the limitations of the flawed block of marble, perhaps not), showed him before the deed.

But he did't know he was the beloved Child of God, the one that God himself chosen for us... And it's Magic Garden, which is Florence, it's maybe also chosen by God, despite the fact that it's been sometimes considered a Sodoma and Gomora, by ignorants...

Comments: David's proportions are actually perfect. According to an italian anatomy professor (Massimo Gulisano) David is completely proportional and perfect (Except of a muscle missing in the back - marked with a small x. The mistake is explained by Michelangelo himself in a letter, and is because of an imperfection in the Marble). This is parafrased from a swiss newspaper called le matin

Im mlooking for a quote from Michelangelo when he first saw the statue of david block of marble . it was somthing like" I dont create the image I simply reveal whats already there'
