User Comments:Name: Shelia Date: 2002-05-21 Comments: It is a wonderful painting. I think religion and belief should be the most important aspect of life. This painting constantly reminds us that religion should be important and placed upon a throne in our lives. Name: stacy Date: 2003-01-09 Comments: i like this painting beacause is shows us that religion was very important to most people back then now its like religion dosen't exist to most people Name: Clayton Date: 2003-03-22 Comments: This painting clearly represents the convergence of faith and ecclesiastical importance. Note that Jesus is sitting on the Madonna's lap, enthroned by her immaculate nature. Likewise, the essence of faith which is Christ is enthroned by the pure nature of the church, for Mary is often depicted as a symbol of the whole Church. On their right hand side stands the successor of St. Peter, showing the importance of the hierarchy in the individual faith of early Christians. I really love this peace because it most clearly demonstrates the mindset of early Christians on the nature of faith. Its beauty is derived from its feel of escape, something given large importance in the churches of the era. It was important that the church be a seperate place and sacred to the people. Paintings such as this get that surreal feeling that is so asthetically wonderful and relaxing, definitely a painting to meditate with.
